Ingredients
– 2/3 stick butter, softened (or 5 tablespoons vegetable oil)
– 4 tablespoons sour cream
– 2 eggs
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 tablespoon vinegar
– 1/2 cup sugar
– 4 cups flour
1. Beat eggs with half of the sugar
2. Beat butter with remaining half of the sugar
3. Dissolve baking soda in vinegar
4. Combine all ingredients into a soft dough
5. Divide dough into 6 parts
6. Roll out each piece thinly
7. Spread with poppyseed pie filling or apricot jam
8. Sprinkle with raisins and nuts
9. Roll up each piece and score with a sharp knife
10. Brush each strudel with a beaten egg mixed with a little bit of water
11. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar
12. Bake at 400 for 5 minutes
13. Lower oven temp to 350 and bake for 20-25 minutes (Careful to not dry it out)
14. Slice the strudel while hot and allow to cool under a towel
