Pirog (Pie) Crust – Tamara’s recipe

Ingredients
– 1-2 packets dry active yeast
– 250 ml milk, warm
– 250 grams butter (softened) OR 1/2 cup vegetable oil
– 1 egg
– Flour

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in the warm milk
  2. Combine all ingredients
  3. Knead into a homogenous dough
  4. Chill in refrigerator for at least 40 minutes before using

Babushka’s Notes

  • This can be used for vatrushka, cabbage pie and apple pie.
  • For vatrushka, cut the recipe in half

Editor’s Note

  • For best results, allow the dough to proof on the counter before refrigerating to allow the yeast to do their thing
